We are into the final days of school. Just a reminder, you may drop off all school materials on Tuesday from 8am until 7pm at the TMS entrance. You will also have the opportunity to pick up your personal belongings on this date. Please return your books on this date as well!
I hope you all are ready for a fun-fill summer vacation. I know that heading into vacation this year is different than the past because we have been home for so long. However, I want you to make the most of it. Read books, play outside, try out some new hobbies and see what sticks. As social distancing guidelines let up and more places open up, feel free to get out, but remember to stay safe. Here is access to Thompson Middle School's summer reading website. I challenge you all to read as much as possible and cannot wait to hear of your literary adventures and real life adventures when we get back to school. Happy Summer and Happy Reading! Mrs. Procko

Good Morning. We have less than 2 weeks left of school - only 7 school days. I cannot believe I have not seen you all since March 13. This seems like a lifetime ago, yet only yesterday. This weeks challenge will focus on encouraging and cheering on our Thompson graduates. Make a sign or poster to congratulate a 4th grader, 8th grader or 12 grader in Thompson public schools. If you don't know any in particular, make it general to all graduates. Once you finish, post it in a window or in front of your house for your neighbors and graduates to enjoy!
Have a great week! Can you believe we only have 16 days left til the end of our school year? I know this was not the school year many students or teachers envisioned; however, you need to make the most of it. Use the next 16 days to complete as much work as possible - even if it is past due. Make yourself proud. If you find that you are struggling, feel free to send me an email and I would be happy to set up a time to work with you and support you in completing your school work. I know your teachers feel the same way - even if you haven't attended your live sessions - we miss you and would love to still help!
Just a reminder, my email is [email protected] and I am happy to help! More good news...The Thompson Public Library is open for pick up and drop off of materials. Check out their online catalog and send [email protected] an email letting her know what you would like to borrow and when your parent/guardian would like to pick up the materials and she will hook you up! Click here to access the catalog. Good Afternoon TMS Students and Families,
As we get ready to close down the school year, I would like to send you with a new challenge. Finish reading your TMS Library books and keep them in a safe place. You will be getting emails about the books you currently have checked out over the course of the next week with instructions on what to do with them. In the meantime, keep them home with you in a safe place so that when the time comes, you can return them to school. On a side note...Has any one started or finished reading A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Susan Collins? I will be starting it soon and hope it is as exciting of a read as the Hunger Games Trilogy was! Hope you are well! Mrs. Procko Grade 8 Monday, May 18, 2020

Typically people use this weekend to kick off their Summer; however, this weekend is much more important than that. Do you know the reason we celebrate Memorial Day? Memorial Day is celebrated the last Monday in May to honor the men and women who have died while serving in our military. Each Memorial Day weekend many towns host parades to commemorate and some even place American Flags on the grave stones of veterans who have passed away. Thompson will be hosting their annual Memorial Day parade this year, but it will look a little different than usual. See the info below from the Thompson Memorial Post 1008 VFW. In order to prep for the parade, I challenge you to make a patriotic sign to show your support for our veteran's in the parade to thank them for our service and to thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Good morning Thompson students. I am not sure how many of your love Harry Potter as much as I do, but I am a fanatic! I didn't read these books until I started working in Thompson almost 8 years ago and I was hooked. I read them all in just a few months and then devoured the films. To date, it is my all-time favorite book series. Because I love these books so much and because their author is amazing today's challenge brings you to the wizarding world. If you fancy yourself a fan as well I challenge you to a quiz. Try your hand at the Which Witch Quiz and see if you score better than me. I got a 7 out of 10.
Hope you all had a good week engaging in your distance learning. I also hope that you have been engaging in independent reading. Today's challenge is to think about your all time favorite book and draw a picture of your favorite scene - one that you would want to escape to on this dreary and rainy day.
Enjoy! Mrs. Procko Good Morning Thompson Students and Families! Yesterday I ran into a tech snafu and was unable to get into my website to update it. My apologies! I hope you made do without chapter 6 of Orphan Island. I will be posting chapter 6 and 7 today.
Today's challenge: Get outside! It's a beautiful day so enjoy it - once you have completed your assignments of course. And, don't forget to practice social distancing. Stay safe and have fun! Welcome back to distance learning. I hope you enjoyed some much needed down time - away from your screens last week. I sure did. My family spent lots of time hiking, biking, taking walks on the beach and playing board games. We even kicked off vacation celebrating Trollstice. We did a make shift world premier party in our living room for the Trolls World Tour movie.
As you know, in a press conference last week CT Governor Ned Lamont issued an executive order requiring citizens to wear face masks or coverings while out in public when we cannot maintain social distancing. This goes into effect tonight at 8pm. Consequently, today's challenge aligns tot his new order. If you, or your the family member in your house that works or does the shopping do not have a mask, make one. Use the link below for a variety of ways to make one. I used the bandana and 2 hair ties method and it was very easy! Click here to access the tutorials. Have a happy and healthy Monday! Mrs. Procko |
